La Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América -Tratado de Comercio de los Pueblos (ALBA-TCP) fue creada como mecanismo regional en La Habana el 14 de diciembre de 2004 por los comandantes Fidel Castro Ruz y Hugo Chávez Frías, líderes de la Revolución cubana y bolivariana, respectivamente, y sobre principios de unidad, soberanía y cooperación genuina entre sus miembros.
Edificada siguiendo los pensamientos de una América vista como una sola nación de Simón Bolívar, José Martí, San Martín, Sucre, Hidalgo, O´ Higgins, y otros tantos próceres, desde su fundación aboga por la integración de carácter social, económico, político y cultural como alternativa al Área de Libre Comercio de las Américas (ALCA).
Pilares sobre los cuales se proyectó el intercambio regional dirigido a la superación de la pobreza y al desarrollo integral de los pueblos de nuestra América. A continuación les invitamos a conocer varios de los proyectos y logros del ALBA-TCP en función de consolidar la integración regional.
Como parte del ALBA-TCP, Venezuela (en el año 2005), Bolivia (2008) y Nicaragua (2009), países miembros del bloque, fueron declarados Territorios Libres de Analfabetismo, a través de intervenciones educativas con el método cubano “Yo sí Puedo” y que tuvieron en la misión Barrio Adentro su principal referente.
La Misión Milagro, correspondiente a la salud, le ha devuelto de forma gratuita la visión a más de 5.000.000 de personas, a lo cual se añaden más de 27.000.000 de consultas oftalmológicas, y la entrega de una cifra superior a los 41.000.000 de anteojos, priorizando a personas de bajos recursos que nunca antes recibieron atención médica por dichos padecimientos.
En materia sanitaria y como parte del Estudio Clínico Genético Psicosocial aplicado a personas con discapacidad, se identificaron más de 1.000.000 de personas desprotegidas en seis de los Estados miembros del bloque, a quienes en su mayoría se les entregó una cifra muy similar de ayudas técnicas como prótesis, además de ofrecerles más de 2.000.000 de consultas sin costo alguno.
A lo que se suma la integración de pacientes a la sociedad potenciando sus capacidades individuales y sin barreras discriminatorias.
Como parte de los mecanismos solidarios implementados por el bloque. más de 29.600 jóvenes latinoamericanos y caribeños, así como africanos, se han formado como galenos comunitarios de profunda vocación social y humanista, y con altos estándares científicos y técnicos en la Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina (ELAM), con sedes en Cuba y Venezuela.
En materia económica la Alianza fomenta la construcción y consolidación de espacios de interdependencia, soberanía y solidaridad económica de sus miembros mediante el Tratado de Comercio de los Pueblos, la creación del SUCRE y el Banco del ALBA.
Además, tras el terremoto que azotó a Haití el 12 de enero de 2010, las naciones miembros del bloque diseñaron y aprobaron un plan de acción para impulsar la reconstrucción y fomentar el desarrollo del país caribeño en las esferas de salud, finanzas, energía, agricultura y soberanía alimentaria; así como también en educación, construcción, seguridad, transporte y logística.
Los sólidos lazos de cooperación contemplan las esferas deportiva y cultural. En la primera cuatro ediciones de los Juegos Deportivos del ALBA, con la participación de más de 10.000 atletas de 31 naciones la avalan; en tanto la red de Casas del ALBA Cultural, diseminadas por todo el continente, legitima los valores culturales latinoamericanos y caribeños.
Como también lo hacen la plataforma multimedia teleSur, consolidada en su lucha contra corrientes hegemónicas de información, y la Red de Emisoras Radio del Sur.
