Bolivia quiere convertirse en el primer productor de chía del mundo

El Gobierno boliviano apuesta en convertir al país en el primer productor de chía del mundo y tiene en la mira a China para ingresar a ese mercado con este producto de alto valor nutritivo.

El viceministro de Comercio Exterior de Bolivia, Benjamín Blanco, manifestó en una entrevista en el canal estatal Bolivia tv que el Gobierno quiere que Bolivia pase de obtener 27 millones de dólares por la venta de la chía anualmente a 70 millones.

Blanco explicó que Bolivia actualmente es el segundo productor de chía con 15.000 toneladas de producción al año y que en primer puesto está Paraguay con 30 mil toneladas anuales, de acuerdo a un boletín del Viceministerio de Comunicación.

Bolivia entre 2013 y 2015 trabajó en la producción de chía y logró pasar de ser un país que no producía esta semilla a ser el segundo productor, por lo que posicionarse como el primer mercado mundial es el siguiente desafío.

Además, las autoridades ya tienen a China en la mira como un potencial mercado de este producto que antes no consumía esta semilla que contiene altos valores nutritivos y que en los últimos años ha aumentado su uso.

“La China no consumía chía, no era un producto que formaba parte de sus importaciones, pero a partir de la pandemia y esta necesidad de varios países de buscar alimentos de mucho más valor nutritivo y sanos ha empezado a importar chía”, indicó Blanco, citado en el comunicado.

Es por ello que ahora Bolivia está a la espera de “una apertura sanitaria por parte de China” para lograr ingresar a ese mercado, Blanco también destacó las buenas relaciones diplomáticas entre ambos países.

El viceministro explicó que debe llegar una misión de China para hacer una inspección en el lugar, pero que la pandemia de la covid-19 ha retrasado este encuentro.

La chía es una semilla rica en antioxidantes, ayuda a regular el tránsito intestinal, es una buena fuente de proteínas, tiene alto contenido en fibra soluble y prolonga la saciedad.
